Pendampingan Pemetaan Cacat Bordir dan Peningkatan Literasi Inspeksi Visual pada UMKM Setia Karya Bordir

Visual inspection in embroidery SMEs largely relies on workers’ experience, which may result in different interpretations of inspection points and product nonconformities. This community service program aimed to map existing inspection practices and enhance visual inspection literacy as an initial diagnostic stage prior to the development of standardized inspection procedures. The program was conducted at Setia Karya Bordir through participatory observation, process mapping, focused discussions, and visual-based learning involving nine employees. The mapping results indicated that visual inspection had been performed during and after the production process; however, terminology for nonconformities, inspection sequences, documented visual referensis, and defect recording practices had not yet been systematically structured. The assistance program resulted in a five-stage process map with corresponding visual inspection points, as well as a five-dimensional visual inspection literacy framework comprising design conformity, stitch continuity and density, motif position and geometry, surface integrity, and inter-unit consistency. Visual discussion materials and a follow-up needs map were also developed to support subsequent improvement activities. These outcomes provide a foundation for further standardization of inspection practices through the development of operational defect definitions, quality decision rules, inspection checklists, standard operating procedures, and routine inspection instruments. In addition to strengthening workers’ understanding of visual inspection, the program provides an initial basis for developing more structured quality documentation practices.
