This study aims to analyze the influence of multilingualism and communication strategies on the intercultural adaptation of Indonesian students participating in internship programs in Taiwan. A quantitative approach with a causal design was employed. The sample consisted of 55 Indonesian students currently undertaking internships in Taiwan, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS, encompassing classical assumption tests, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination. The results indicate that, individually, multilingualism has a positive but non-significant effect on intercultural adaptation (B = 0.180; p = 0.098), whereas communication strategies have a positive and significant effect (B = 0.716; p < 0.001). Simultaneously, multilingualism and communication strategies significantly influence intercultural adaptation (F = 14.821; p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.363, indicating that these two variables explain 36.3% of the variation in intercultural adaptation. These findings suggest that communication strategies are a more dominant factor than multilingual ability in supporting the successful intercultural adaptation of Indonesian students during their internships in Taiwan. Therefore, pre-departure orientation programs should focus not only on enhancing language proficiency but also on developing cross-cultural communication strategies to better prepare students for multicultural work environments.
